Even though summer is already here, I think most of us still have our goal to reach at the gym.. you know, the same goal we set back on New Year Day lol seriously do you find yourself struggling to get to the gym like I do? Especially now with the beautiful weather, the last thing I want to do is go to the gym and get on the treadmill. Not gonna lie & say I love working out, because I don’t lol if I could stuff my face and not gain an ounce, (I would probably live off of Nutella) I wouldn’t workout as much as I do or attempt to but unfortunately I wasn’t blessed with that kind of metabolism like some women, we all know a few. I workout 4-5 days a week and finding the motivation is seriously a struggle. Even when I do push myself to go, I find it so so boring to do cardio on the treadmill and toning/weights is another story. So many programs out there.. either too boring, too intense, not enough, etc. etc. Why so many options? *insert crying emoji here*
Ever since I moved to Spain, I have tried several gyms but I needed something more to A. show up B. get motivated and C. not bore me to death. Since I love kickboxing I thought I’d give it a try. I came across B3B in my neighborhood, my friends and I tried a class and I fell in love. B3B is a combination of bike, boxing and ballet aka cardio, toning and pilates/cool down #genius
Each class is 45 minutes long, divided equally into the 3 b’s—bike, boxing, ballet. Assuming that’s where they got their name lol this place is seriously so much fun. Love, love the interior also. From the locker/dressing room to the actual studio, the minute you walk in you just want to workout and kick some a**. The staff is so so friendly and instructors are really motivating throughout the entire class. When you enter the studio, you first see the bikes with towels ready to go, and the boxing bags in the back (you will be given cool pink gloves before class or you can bring your own,) then you’ll see the ballet bars right next to it. The class starts on the bikes, the instructor is telling you what to do but you can always go at your own pace. Then you get off the bike and put your gloves on for boxing and lastly you move over to the bars for ballet moves and do a little bit of pilates and cool down at the end. All while listening to music and sweating like no other. This is the exact type of workout I am talking about that won’t bore you and the results will speak for itself. First timers are free, if you’re in the area definitely try them out. Here is their schedule, you can reserve your spot online or walk in
I am seriously so excited I found my go to place. You’ll see what I am talking about if you get a chance to go. Staying motivated and in shape takes some serious discipline, here’s what is helping me stay on track:
1. Find what you love—having a gym membership is great but what’s the point if it’s going to feel like another chore? It’s important to know what you love to do especially when it’s something you’re doing (hopefully) 3-4 times a week. Find an activity that doesn’t feel like “working out.” For me it’s definitely boxing and ballet random I know but I enjoy both so much that when I think about going to kickboxing or ballet classes, I don’t find myself on the couch eating instead lol I actually look forward to it
2. Get a workout buddy— not sure what it is about having a workout buddy but it makes such a big difference for me. Whether you’re trying classes like B3B or going to the gym, find someone who will join so you can motivate one other. Every time my friends & I workout, we help each other stay disciplined and get more out of our workout.. There’s also something comforting about going through the pain together lol
3. Try new activities— As I mentioned earlier I was in need of changing my workout routine to stay motivated, that’s when I found B3B. Try different activities this summer. Even if you don’t think it’ll suit you or you’ll like it, try it anyway. You never know what you’ll end up liking or what works for your body. If you live near a park, rent a bike or go for a jog. If you have a gym membership, try different classes (take your friend with you.) You won’t know what else you’ll enjoy unless you get out of your regular routine and push yourself to try new things.
4. Change your food a little bit— not that you should be on strict diet or if you do it’s fine but change what you eat, even if it’s small. Every once in a while change it up so you’re body can adjust to different kind of food and that will help you see little changes in your body. I notice every time I change my regular breakfast (oatmeal, soy milk, honey, chia seeds) to something like a banana and yogurt or a homemade bar for a few weeks my body responds differently and I lose a weight. Obviously not five pounds or anything but I see the difference.
and lastly, if you’re in Madrid and don’t want to melt this summer.. drink tons, I mean TONS of water and go to a pool (see my post for an awesome rooftop in MAD)
